This derailment along the BNSF route in Iowa caused the CZ to be coupled to the SWC in Galesburg and run as one supertrain to Kansas City, thence on its own on a normally non-passenger route back to Lincoln, NE and its regular route. Details here.

If I read the narrative of what happened correctly, access for #5 at Kansas City was a problem because of the length of the platform. Why wouldn't they just detach #5 from #3 prior to the Knasas City station and send #5 on its way? After all, #5 wasn't supposed to be in Kansas City at all, so its passengers had no need to get on/off of the train. huh.gif

Actually #5 did need to make a station stop. A bus was there to meet passengers headed for Omaha who otherwise would have missed their stop entirely thanks to the detour.
