Cargo Train Derails in Lugoff, 12 Cars Off Tracks

 

Emergency crews are working to make sure there's no threat to the public from a train derailment overnight in Kershaw County.

Lugoff Fire Chief Dennis Ray says they were called to a scene just off Highway 601 near Lugoff around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Railroad tracks site of weekend derailment to reopen Monday

 

LUGOFF, SC (WIS) -  Railroad tracks that were the site of a train derailment this weekend in Lugoff will reopen Monday.

Officials say the cause of the derailment is believed to be a bulldozer that was parked in a manner where the blade of the vehicle was sitting on the railroad tracks. Investigators are working to determine if the bulldozer was parked there deliberately.

CSX ups reward in South Carolina derailment investigation

 

 

LUGOFF, S.C. — CSX Transportation is offering more money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a freight train derailment in Lugoff in early August.

On Friday, railroad law enforcement officials said they are now offering $25,000 instead of the initial $5,000 award, reports Columbia, S.C., newspaper The State.

According to railroad and Kershaw County Sherriff’s deputies, a bulldozer was intentionally placed near the railroad’s right-of-way, causing a local freight train to derail two locomotives and 12 freight cars on early morning hours of Aug. 5.
