Post your reports and thoughts on our trip on Train #19(18), the Crescent, as we rode between Atlanta and New Orleans.

At dinner in Atlanta people were looking at performance of the next Train #19, the one we'll be boarding Tuesday morning. It was running right on time. I just checked before retiring, and it's still on time.

As of 6:30 AM, train still appears to be headed for an on-time arrival.... which in reality means it may very well arrive early.

OK our trip is done. We left on time but encountered a meet with #20 just past the Tuscaloosa station, and some freights further down the line. All told we came in at 8:02 PM -- just half an hour late. Highlight of this trip is always the crossing of Lake Ponchartrain. Lowlights include seeing Tuscaloosa, particularly north or east of the station, in ruins from the May tornado -- and also the pitfalls of the sleeper attendants and dining car staff, which are too numerous to mention here. Calling them a crew would be an unwarranted compliment.

I was in the 1910 car. Our SCA wasn't around either, but then again, I never really needed anything from him. The lady server in the diner seemed to be pretty slow in the morning, but by dinner was running quick. Almost too quick, in that she wanted us to hurry up and order so they could get served and out the door. Always nice having a day room though. I took a couple naps on the upper bunk of my room or just sat there looking out the window and reading my "Trains" Magazine. The upper bunk with the window right next to you is the best part of the Viewliner.
