Region begins readying for Hurricane Joaquin
As Hurricane Joaquin whipped up a fury in the Bahamas on Thursday, area officials were doing their best not to whip up a frenzy.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo held a briefing for essential services in that state, including Metro North Railroad that is shared with Connecticut.
“Metro-North is ensuring that employees are positioned to clear fallen trees, pump out water in areas known as prone to localized flooding (and) address conditions caused if any power outages should occur,’’ said railroad spokesman Aaron Donovan.
Donovan said after Cuomo’s briefing that diesel locomotives will be placed on standby at key locations to tow any electric trains that become disabled, and is monitoring the stability of its electric grid.
