Hurricane Isabel Comes to Town

Hurricane Isabel is on its way. Like everyone else in the region, VRE is keeping on top of the latest developments. Isabel is expected to arrive in the area sometime Thursday or Friday. In addition to monitoring the storm, we are working closely with CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Amtrak to determine the correct course of action for VRE.

As with every service day, our top priority is for the safe delivery of our trains and passengers to their destinations. Strong winds, already saturated grounds, and the possibility of downed trees could pose a challenge to the safety of our service. As we get closer to the time of impact, we will be taking all of this into consideration. Stay tuned to VRE's website, Train Talk, or your local media as Isabel approaches. A special Isabel page will be available on our website at
http://www.vre.org/service/isabel.htm and will have the most current information as it becomes available.

Amtrak Makes Their Decision About Isabel

Amtrak has already made their decision about service as Hurricane Isabel approaches and will cancel all of their train service south of Washington, D.C. effective Wednesday evening (September 17). Because of this, Amtrak trains will definitely not be running on Thursday, September 18. In addition, due to concerns about overnight storage, Amtrak train #93 (departing Union Station at 5:45 pm) and #85 (departing Union Station at 7:00 pm) may also be cancelled for Wednesday evening. As these decisions are made, VRE will be sure to inform you. Again, stay tuned to Train Talk and our Isabel page on our website.

Train Equipment Changes Occur Today

As stated in our Train Talks last week, some equipment changes will be taking place this evening and tomorrow morning. The new consist (train makeup) is listed on our website at
http://www.vre.org/service/consist.htm . If you are at the station this evening and see a different train than you are expecting, please check with the conductor prior to boarding.

"Meet the Management" at Rippon on Wednesday

VRE's "Meet the Management" series continues this week with a visit to the Rippon station. VRE staff and management will be at Rippon for all morning trains to hear any comments or feedback you may have. To get your morning started on the right foot, coffee and donuts will be provided.

To find out when Meet the Management will come to your location, visit http://www.vre.org/feedback/mtm.htm . We look forward to seeing you!

This Week in Commuter Weekly

This week in Commuter Weekly, meet Brenda Thompson, VRE's Administrative Coordinator, and find out who is eligible to park in VRE station lots (the answer may surprise you!). This week's articles are available on your seats tomorrow or on our website at http://www.vre.org/s...ce/seatnote.htm .
