MARC E-News Updates
HURRICANE WATCH BEGINS
As all our passengers are aware, a major hurricane is headed towards the Baltimore-Washington area. The latest NOAA forecast track has the storm striking the Outer Banks of North Carolina at 8am on Thursday and passing through the area of Hancock, Maryland on Friday morning. As with any hurricane prediction, the exact track of the hurricane and the force of the winds are subject to constant update.
In anticipation of any storm CSX begins 24 hours in advance to remove grade crossing arms and to make preparations for a storm. Downed trees, wires and flooding represent the most likely obstacles to service. Amtrak has already announced that there will be no long distance service south of Washington after Wednesday evening. While we have received no final decision from CSX, there is a high probability that there will be no service on the Camden and Brunswick Lines on Thursday or Friday.
Since the Penn Line is the furthest east of our three routes there has been no decision yet by Amtrak on Penn Line service. In past storms, service has been interrupted by trees in electrical lines and flooding at low lying points. As soon as Amtrak advises us we will update our customers on the status of Penn Line Service on Thursday and Friday.
