A very comprehensive list of Toronto hotels is now online on my site. All prices are expressed in Canadian dollars, so what you will ultimately spend in US currency is roughly 73% of that amount. No price ceiling was observed, but all properties listed are within 4 blocks of a subway station or streetcar stop.

The rates were checked for 2 double beds, and in most cases a person staying by himself would pay the same price for one king or one queen bed. You can put in your own what-if situations to try to get a better rate by clicking on the hotel links in the table.

The hotel listing is here:
http://pages.prodigy...fest/hotels.htm

We may wish to all stay in one place, but with different budgets and lengths of stay we might split up a bit as we did in Chicago last summer.

One more hotel was added to the listing today, so please reread the above list. I'm evaluating my options and will let participants know soon via e-mail where I've chosen to stay.

I've made my decisions regarding where I intend to stay during the OTOL Toronto RailFest 2004 Pre-Fest and main event. In Buffalo, I am now reserved at the Doubletree Club Hotel. I believe at least three others have also made their reservations there, so most of us participating in the Pre-Fest will be together. One member of our group is considering staying at a hostel. BTW, the Doubletree website is currently showing rates for this hotel that are lower than what my site lists. They do tend to fluctuate, so it would be to your advantage to act now before they go up again. For the 4 nights in Toronto, I have chosen the Clarion Hotel Selby. Thanks to Jack for reminding me that I originally omitted it from the list. To me it appears to be the best value for a downtown location near the subway. As far as I know, one other person is staying there, two are considering hostels, two will go with the Toronto Hilton, one in the Fairmont Royal York, and one on the Marriott Rennaisance in the Skydome. Although it appears we will be spread out, the subway runs on good frequencies, so we should be okay for meeting downtown near the intended start point of our travels each day. The itineraries, when written, assumed we were staying at Yonge & Queen or at Union Station, which may or may not be the case now. So they will be slightly altered to reflect the fact that some are coming from other locations. The Sunday schedule will also be revised soon. It will include an afternoon visit to the CN Tower, so we can look down upon the railroad tracks leading to and from Union Station. This would push back our completion of the 512 St. Clair Streetcar and the Downsview leg of the Yonge-University-Spadina subway by an hour or two. For those taking the Pre-Fest option to Syracuse and Buffalo, we have less than a month to go!
