Lawyer found guilty of conspiracy in N.J. railroad bribery scheme

 

TRENTON — A Jersey City man has been found guilty of conspiring with a former state transportation engineer to help a railroad company defraud a grant program by falsely inflating the cost of a bridge rehab project in return for $325,000 in bribes, state authorities said Tuesday.

Dubose conspired with Gaudner Metellus, 36, of Jamison, Pa., a former senior engineer with the state Department of Transportation, to solicit the Morristown and Erie Railway to increase the cost of a bridge project in Roseland by $700,000 in return for a cut.

NJ man gets 6 years in railroad conspiracy case

 

TRENTON – A northern New Jersey man convicted of participating in a scheme to fraudulently get state funds for a railroad repair project has been sentenced to six years in state prison.

 

Ernest J. Dubose of Jersey City was sentenced in Superior Court after being found guilty in April of second-degree conspiracy charges, Acting Attorney General John Hoffman said Friday.

Ex-N.J. DOT engineer sent to prison for railroad fraud scheme

 

TRENTON — A former engineer with the state Department of Transportation has been sentenced to three years in prison for conspiring to help a railroad company defraud a grant program in return for a cut, state authorities said Monday.

On Aug. 12, 2010, company officials secretly recorded a meeting between their chief executive officer and Metellus in Morristown, in which Metellus described the scheme. They contacted state authorities the following day and cooperated in the investigation.
