O Scale Trolley Modelers report that a March 30 article by Washington Policy Center announces a ballot initiative (Proposition 1) to take place April 28 in Spokane. Voters will consider whether to add to state sales tax in order to fund a six mile electric trolleybus line for Spokane Transit Authority.

No doubt, Evergreen and Lightning will have some insightful commentary on the matter .

Insider  Online, 3/30/15:

Overview of Spokane’s Electric Trolley Proposal

Spokane Transit Authority’s (STA) Proposition 1 would increase the sales tax in most of Spokane Country to 9 percent, and STA’s portion of said sales tax would jump by 50 percent. Proposition 1 includes a $72 million, six-mile long electric trolley plan for downtown Spokane. In addition, taxpayers would pay at least $4.1 million a year to operate the trolley

I added another item to this topic with some links to the source, and also moved this thread from Rail Transit to the Miscellaneous Travel Items forum because this is Electric Trolley Bus, not electric trolley...  accent on the B Word.

Column in Spokane, WA Journal, 3/12/15:

STA trolley proposal doesn’t track

For years, lovable TV host Mr. Rogers would invite children to jump on board the trolley and go into the ‘land of make believe.’ The low-tech studio prop wasn’t six miles long and it didn’t cost taxpayers $72 million, but it was a journey full of valuable lessons.

Many Spokane residents may have experienced childhood flashbacks to those “beautiful days in the neighborhood” when Spokane Transit Authority officials recently announced plans for their own electric trolley. But even kindly Mr. Rogers would have trouble selling this proposal.

KK is correct--it's not a streetcar, it's I guess what we call in Seattle a trolleybus.  Nice looking, but not the "real deal".  At least OUR trolleybuses use honest-to-goodness catenary.  I'm jaded--no rails, no interest.  Spokane has rejected rails over the past few years.  So be it.
