EtnaRail project description translated from Italian:

The Metropolitan City of Catania, gathered through the mayors of the municipalities involved and the heads of the Superintendent and the Metropolitan City, unanimously approved the project of light rail monorail that will connect, on two lines, the towns of Pedara, Mascalucia, San Gregorio Catania Gravina di Catania, Tremestieri Etneo and San Giovanni La Punta to the town of Etna. The system is named after EtnaRail.

Now it expects only the opinion of the University of Catania, as the monorail will pass through the University Campus, and that Anas, because the system will overtake also the ring road of Catania.

The two lines (green and orange) the first to be built will be the green, for a cost of 260 million Euros in project financing. This line will connect with Catania Mascalucia (terminus in via Ala) exchanging with the subway at the station Milo avenue Alexander Fleming. Initially it was planned a third line (red), suppressed by the unavailability of the town of Sant'Agata li Battiati.
