Downtown Denver light-rail reconstruction project to start in May
In May, the Regional Transportation District-Denver (RTD) expects to begin the first phase of construction for a $152 million, multiphased project to reconstruct light-rail track in downtown Denver.
It will be the first major reconstruction project of its kind in the agency's history, RTD officials said in a news release. . . .

No light-rail service will operate in RTD's central corridor through September 2024. Following completion of the project’s first phase in September, crews will pause reconstruction work until 2025, and all light-rail services will resume normal operations.

Denver light rail to see significant cuts in frequency during downtown construction
The Regional Transportation District will temporarily cut light rail service to one train per hour on some lines as of May 26, the Denver Post reports, saying the reduced frequencies are necessary to address maintenance that has been deferred, but risking abandonment for cars by riders who have that option.

Long, hot, frustrating summer in store for Denver RTD light rail transit users
There’s a long, hot, frustrating summer in store for RTD light rail transit users.
The Regional Transportation District is undertaking a $152 million renovation of rail lines that will shut down the 5.3 miles of the "downtown loop" rail service, delay train arrivals, and divert many outlying trains to Union Station rather than their customary downtown endpoints.
This is the story.

Colorado Public Radio, 5/20/24:
RTD will shut down central downtown light rail service all summer to make up for years of delayed maintenance
The steel was disintegrating. The concrete was crumbling.
A section of the Regional Transportation District’s downtown light rail track was in such poor condition in November 2022, that the agency predicted a high chance of a “catastrophic” event if it wasn’t fixed. RTD classified the track at 19th and Stout streets as “condemned” and restricted its trains to just 3 miles per hour until it was later replaced.

KDVR-TV, Fox-31 in Denver, CO, 8/30/24:
First phase of RTD’s rail reconstruction project finished ahead of schedule
The Regional Transportation District said crews completed the first phase of the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project, and they did so ahead of schedule.
Story here.
If the project is completely done, has anyone questioned why they did not restore service on the downtown hub right away rather than waiting 3 weeks until the next official general timetable change?
