From NJT's website:

We are continuing to track the approach of Hurricane Isabel. We are preparing contingency plans for our bus, rail, and light rail service for a wide variety of scenarios throughout the state. Hurricanes are unpredictable and we are monitoring the storm closely. Our goal is to accommodate the greatest number of customers possible - focusing on service to Newark, New York and Hoboken during Friday’s morning peak period and service from these terminals during the evening peak.

We are working closely with regional transit agencies. NJ TRANSIT rail, bus, Newark City Subway, and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail tickets will be cross-honored beginning 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18. In addition, beginning 3 p.m. Thursday, all NJ TRANSIT tickets will be cross-honored on:

PATH service boarding at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken Terminal, and 33rd St. in New York
NY Waterway and Sea Streak ferry service
Private carrier bus lines including Academy, Coach, DeCamp, Lakeland, Rockland Coach, Short Line, and Trans-Bridge.
Hurricane-force winds and torrential rains can severely impact rail service. Strong winds can cause trees to be knocked down onto railroad tracks, overhead electric wires, or signal power wires. When winds exceed 60 mph, overhead power wires must be shut down along segments of the railroad. Flooding, downed trees, and downed power lines can make tracks impassible for trains, and roads impassible for buses.

Our storm contingency preparations are well underway. Auxiliary equipment such as back-up generators and pumps are in position. Track maintenance crews and bus maintenance personnel are deployed to address storm-related problems as they arise. Bus and rail equipment and operating personnel are assigned to locations that are most vulnerable. Customer Service response teams are deployed at key boarding locations.

As always, the safety of our customers and employees is our first priority. We are doing our best to minimize the impact of Hurricane Isabel on our customers. Please listen closely to news reports and check this website for updates regarding Hurricane Isabel and NJ TRANSIT service. At stations listen closely to announcements for service updates. Thank you.
