Metra news release:

Maywood Opens New Metra Station

(June 30, 2017) - In a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning, officials from the Village of Maywood joined Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno in opening the new Maywood Metra station at N. 5th Ave. & Main St.

The 878.5 sq. ft. indoor station replaces an existing, smaller outdoor shelter. In addition to providing shelter from the elements, the new station is heated, including heated flooring.

“I am so pleased to cut the ribbon for our new Metra Commuter Station,” said Maywood Mayor Edwenna Perkins. “The station is lovely and quaint and harkens back to the glory days of Maywood that we will bring back. It will shelter our citizens as they wait for the train, and it will give others riding through another look at our town.”

“We couldn’t be happier that the Village of Maywood has provided this wonderful new facility for the benefit of their citizens and our customers,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “At a time when capital dollars are hard to come by, it takes cooperation like this to get things done. We hope this furthers Maywood’s economic development efforts and grows our ridership.”

Along with the new station, 40 parking spots were created on Main Street, east of the Maywood station.

Rosemont-based Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL) undertook design engineering and construction observation for the $2.1 million project that was designed by FGM Architects.

“This new Metra station is an important addition to the Maywood community and will hopefully make Maywood residents’ commutes a bit more enjoyable,” said Christopher B. Burke, PhD, PE, D.WRE, Dist.M.ASCE, and President of CBBEL. “CBBEL is proud to have worked with the Village of Maywood, IDOT and the Union Pacific Railroad to make this project a reality.”
