From Arizona Republic, 10/11/07:

Residents faced with congested commutes, high gas prices and environmental concerns want to know whether Glendale is on track to offer light-rail service.

The easy answer is yes, but where those rail lines will go is under study.

From Arizona Republic, 12/6/08:

City leaders are at odds over the best route for Glendale's stretch of light rail, with some defending the original line to downtown and others arguing for taking it to the city's sports and entertainment district instead.

From Arizona Republic, 12/12/08:

Will Glendale voters turn into election skeptics if light rail doesn't go downtown?

City leaders are considering the question as they mull a change to the light-rail map that residents approved in 2001. The route, included on ballots for a transportation sales tax, would link Phoenix and downtown Glendale.

From Arizona Republic & 12 News, Phoenix, AZ, 3/18/09:

Glendale is pushing to change the route of the first light-rail line planned for the West Valley, seeing greater value in taking the line to the city's bustling stadium district than its quaint downtown.

From Arizona Republic, 6/13/09:

In just a few weeks, Elizabeth Hermanns has transformed from an architectural history teacher into a one-woman activist.

The Glendale resident has been pounding the city's streets advocating for a downtown light rail line.

Pound the streets for more here.

From Arizona Republic, 10/13/09:

Light rail's westward ambitions are expected to take a significant step forward next week when Metro's board votes on whether to approve the first study of trains to Glendale's sports complex.

Arizona Republic, 6/23/10:

Declining revenues slow West Valley light-rail lines

Against the wishes of West Valley officials, Phoenix exercised its prerogative and delayed four light-rail corridors, including one in Glendale, due to declining revenues.

Each year, the Valley Metro Board of Directors revises the Light Rail Life Cycle Program that identifies project locations, their durations and costs based on forecasted revenues. The latest update estimated a $62 million deficit for 2010.

Here is the story.

Arizona Republic, Phoenix, AZ, 11/7/12:
