As part of the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario, Canada's history, the province is moving ahead with the $1.2 billion Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project — a priority transit investment in Toronto that will bring much-needed rapid transit to communities along Finch Avenue West.

The LRT will create approximately six miles of rapid transit along Finch West from the new Finch West subway station on the Toronto-York Spadina subway extension to Humber College.

The project will help transform Finch Avenue West into a vibrant community, accessible to motorists, transit riders, cyclists and pedestrians. The LRT service will also move more people, faster through the busy Finch West corridor than the existing bus service.

Through the Moving Ontario Forward plan the government is investing in priority rapid transit projects that will connect to the GO Transit network and other transit systems across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). These priority rapid transit projects will increase transit ridership, reduce travel times, manage congestion, connect people to jobs and improve the economy.

Earlier this month, Ontario moved ahead with its plan to unlock the value of certain public assets. This will provide the province with approximately $4 billion to build new transit and other priority infrastructure projects through Moving Ontario Forward.

Investing more than $130 billion over 10 years in public infrastructure ­— the largest infrastructure investment in the province's history — is part of the government's plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives and building a secure retirement savings plan.

Ontario issues RFQ for Finch West light-rail project

Metrolinx and Canadian Crown corporation Infrastructure Ontario yesterday issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for firms to design, build, finance and maintain the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Toronto.

The RFQ marks the first step in the project's procurement process, Infrastructure Ontario officials said in a press release.

Submissions will be evaluated to prequalify teams with relevant design and construction experience, along with their capacity to finance and deliver the project. Qualified teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals, Infrastructure Ontario officials said.

Infrastructure Ontario, Metrolinx unveil short list of firms to build Finch West light-rail project

 

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have released a request for proposals to companies short-listed to design, build, finance and maintain Toronto's Finch West light-rail project.

The teams were selected based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began in September 2015. Selection criteria included construction capability, experience and financial capacity to deliver a project the size and complexity of the Finch West, Infrastructure Ontario officials said in a press release.

The Canadian government plans to commit up to CA$333 million for the Finch West light-rail project in Toronto, Ontario Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced late last week.

Expected to cost CA$1.2 billion, the project involves building a 6.83-mile light-rail line along the surface of Finch Avenue in Toronto. The route will originate at the Toronto Transit Commission's future Finch West subway station on the Toronto-York Spadina expansion.

Finch West LRT bidders submit their proposals

 

THE three shortlisted bidders for design, build, finance and maintain contract for the $C 1.2bn ($US 933.6m) Finch West LRT project in Ontario, Canada, have submitted their proposals to Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx. The preferred bidder is expected to be announced in spring 2018.

Metrolinx crews have completed most early construction on the future Finch West light-rail line in northwest Toronto in preparation for major construction, agency officials announced last week on the Metrolinx blog.

By 2023, the Finch West light-rail line will connect the Jamestown, Rexdale and Black Creek neighborhoods via 18 stops, including 16 surface stops and an underground interchange station at Finch West.  .  .  .

    Bombardier awarded 30-year services contract for Toronto’s Finch West Light Rail Transit project  

 

 

Global mobility technology leader Bombardier Transportation announced today that it has signed a contract with Mosaic Transit Partners Maintenance GP (MTM) to provide 30 years of maintenance services for the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Toronto. Under the agreement, Bombardier will maintain a fleet of light rail vehicles as well as wayside track and overhead catenary system assets for the new LRT line scheduled to be completed in 2023.
