NJ TRANSIT in these instances does nothing but cross-honor, which does nothing for you if the alternate means doesn't go anywhere near where your primary method of transportation goes.

NJ.com, 1/27:

How NJ Transit rebooted the railroad for Wednesday's commute

The trains, the buses and light rail will be there to greet you Wednesday morning for your normal commute.

NJ Transit crews spent the Tuesday doing the railroading equivalent of hitting the reset button and rebooting a system that had been shut down in anticipation of a monster snowstorm, which never came.

All rail lines will be running on a regular weekday schedule, including three which remained dormant through Tuesday, due to a shortage of crews to operate the trains.

SNIP

Early Tuesday morning, Snyder predicted an afternoon restart for rail, but that quickly changed as inspectors completed their rounds and crews were called in to operate service on a weekend schedule.

Amtrak also pitched in by allowing NJ Transit to store 40 rail cars underground in Penn Station, New York instead of having to park them in a ground level train yard that was subject to the weather, Snyder said.
