Amtrak at this point of time has not put any further updates out since 8/31/21 regarding service on the City of New Orleans, Sunset Limited, and Crescent to/from New Orleans.   As of today, 9/4/21, the Crescent continues to turn at Atlanta, and the City of New Orleans continues to turn at Memphis.  The Sunset Limited (2) that left Los Angeles on the evening of 9/3/21 is en route, but trying to make a reservation for the same train on 9/5 SAS-NOL is says "cancelled".

Trains 'Newswire' 9/2/21

Amtrak’s New York tunnels withstand Ida’s deluge

Stranded trains led to Northeast Corridor shutdown; some cancellations will continue into Friday

An Amtrak Northeast Regional train makes it way through the Princeton Junction, N.J., station in April 2019. Heavy rains from the remnant of Hurricane Ida led to mid-route halts to trips Wednesday night and Thursday cancellations. (Bob Johnston)

NEW YORK — Despite more than 7 inches of rain that shut down New York’s subway system late Wednesday, the Amtrak tunnels connecting the Northeast Corridor to Manhattan survived tropical storm Ida without the debilitating damage that occurred as a result of 2012’s Superstorm Sandy.

But other damage and power outages caused cancellation of all Boston-Washington, D.C. trains Thursday and New York-Albany-Rensselaer, N.Y. trains through Friday, Sept. 3.

Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams confirms the tunnels under the Hudson and East Rivers, to and from Penn Station and the Moynihan Train Hall, remain operational, but safety concerns and track outages caused some trains to stop at intermediate locations along the corridor Wednesday night.

Continue here.

Hurricane Ida did not derail Amtrak plan to restart Gulf Coast route

Sixteen years ago, Hurricane Katrina’s strong winds and powerful storm surge damaged rail stations and infrastructure along the Gulf Coast rail line. As a result, passenger rail has not operated along it ever since.

Story appears here.
