NS Intermodal Service Alert:
Derailment Near Birmingham, AL
May 20, 2017
Repairs are underway following yesterday’s derailment near Birmingham, AL. Train service between Atlanta and the Southeast to and from Birmingham, Dallas, Mexico, New Orleans, and the West Coast will continue to be impacted. There is no current estimate on when the route will be returned to service.
The following trains are being diverted around the impacted area and are expected to incur transit delays of 6-8 hours:
- 23E-19 (Southeast to Dallas/Mexico)
- 24E-19 (Mexico/Dallas to Southeast)
- 220-19 (Dallas to Southeast)
- 226-19 (LATC/Lathrop to Southeast)
- 298-19 (New Orleans to Southeast)
- 219-20 (Northeast/Southeast to Dallas)
The following trains are being diverted around the impacted area via the Memphis Gateway and are expected to incur transit delays of up to 16 hours:
- 23D-20 (Southeast to LATC/Lathrop)
- 225-20 (Southeast to LATC/Lathrop)
Trains 22Q-19 (Southeast to New Orleans) and 290-20 (Birmingham to Northeast) have been annulled. We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
