With Hurricane Rita barrelling towards what now looks to be a direct hit on Texas (around Galveston), expect some service disruptions to take place real soon.
Amtrak's only train in that neck of the woods is the SUNSET LIMITED (through Houston). However service is still suspended in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina east of San Antonio. A hit in the Galveston area would most likely also impact the city of Houston, where there is a light rail line (and a few stadiums full of evacuees from New Orleans).
Freight lines that resumed service in the south will probably have some lines closed again in advance of this storm.
