Marine Corps Marathon to make ‘significant changes’ due to Metro 24/7 track work

 

 

WASHINGTON — With Metro no longer opening early for any reason, the Marine Corps Marathon is set to make a “significant announcement” later this week.

 

Marathon organizers say Metro’s track work will lead to “an alteration for MCM events this year,” since Metro has traditionally been the way most runners and fans get to the race.

Marine Corps Marathon organizers announce race day changes

 

WASHINGTON — The Marine Corps Marathon will provide an extended start window, alter racecourses and provide shuttle service for runners and spectators to accommodate the lack of Metrorail service in the hours before the races begin, organizers said Wednesday.

The marathon will start as previously scheduled at 7:55 a.m. and the wheelchair races will begin at 7:40 a.m. But all runners have a full hour — until 8:55 a.m. — to begin the 26.2-mile course. The extended start window is intended to accommodate runners who experience transportation delays the morning of the race on Oct. 30.
