Use this thread to discuss our travels aboard Amtrak Empire Corridor Train #283 from New York to Utica, & our time in Utica on Monday evening.

So far, a good trip on a fairly hot day.  We left New York on time, had our scenic run up the Hudson River, and are now headed west towards Utica.   So far the most eventful part of our trip was the New York-Albany crew's forgetting to scan the entire sold-out Business Class car.  We thought that because it was sold out, they just auto checked us in, but that apparently wasn't done.  When the second crew went to re-scan our tickets, we were all being rejected (supposedly as no-shows).  The conductor was just shaking his head at the work this created for him.  He took our paper tickets and supposedly corrected the issue. Those who had subsequent trips on the same reservation, they will find out if the issue was resolved when they present their tickets to be scanned on their next train.  Luckily my Maple Leaf trip tomorow is on a separate reservation, so I am not worried.

 

Other than that, an enjoyable journey thus far.

#283 arrived into Utica about 5 minutes late.. Not bad.    Longer than expected walk to the hotel.  After checking in and dropping our luggage, it was out again for another several block walk to dinner at Swifty's Restaurant & Pub.  Dinner was good.  Now we're retired to our respective rooms anticipating Day 2.

Had no trouble using my 'restored' reservation that had been cancelled/no show on the return today.  Whew!
