WMATA service alert:

 

Weekend service adjustments October 13-15 for scheduled maintenance

 

Advisory Effective: 10/10/17 - 10/15/17

 

Maintenance work over the weekend of October 13-15 to keep trains operating safely and reliably.

 

Highlights

  • Silver and Green line trains operate regular weekend service
  • Red Line trains operate every 24 minutes
  • Orange Line trains every 20 minutes
  • Buses replace Blue and Yellow line trains between Braddock Road and Pentagon City

 

Red Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Sunday

 

Single tracking between Rhode Island Avenue & Takoma to allow for switch maintenance and grout pad renewal.

 

Orange Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 10:00PM Friday through closing Sunday

 

Single tracking between Cheverly & New Carrollton to allow for grout pad, rail, fastener and cover board renewal.

 

Friday, 9:00 p.m. until closing, the west entrance (Vermont Avenue & I Street) to McPherson Square station will be closed for ceiling tile replacement. The east entrance at 14th & I Street and elevator will remain open.

 

Silver Line
Regular weekend service

 

Friday, 9:00 p.m. until closing, the west entrance (Vermont Avenue & I Street) to McPherson Square station will be closed for ceiling tile replacement. The east entrance at 14th & I Street and elevator will remain open.

 

Blue Line
Buses replace trains between Pentagon City and Braddock Road | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Sunday

 

Blue Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Pentagon City & Largo Town Center and every 15 minutes between Franconia-Springfield & Braddock Road.

 

Free shuttle buses will operate between Pentagon City, Crystal City, National Airport and Braddock Road. Please allow 15 minutes of travel time for each station stop.

 

Stations closed: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Crystal City.

 

To allow for shuttle bus connections, the last train will depart Franconia-Springfield at 11:56 p.m. Saturday and 9:56 p.m. Sunday, 30 minutes earlier than normal.

 

Work performed: Communication cable installation and platform rehabilitation.

 

Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. Riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.

Yellow Line
Buses replace trains between Pentagon City and Braddock Road | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Sunday

 

Yellow Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Pentagon City & Mt Vernon Square and every 15 minutes between Huntington & Braddock Road. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt Vernon Sq should use the Green Line to complete their trip.

 

Free shuttle buses will operate between Pentagon City, Crystal City, National Airport and Braddock Road. Please allow 15 minutes of travel time for each station stop.

 

Stations closed: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Crystal City.

Here’s what happens when a key Metro station — National Airport — halts train service

 

A partial shutdown of Metro’s Blue and Yellow lines from 7 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday caught some travelers arriving at Reagan National Airport by surprise. The service disruption also created miles-long traffic jams and a boom in business for ride-hail services.
