Wow, very interesting. Train numbers will be drastically changed, and it's clear they are running out of them. If they choose to do more variations between weekday and weekend versions of the trains, they will run out. In this new timetable, 519 is the highest Cascades number, and 520 and above are used by the Capitol Corridor and Pacific Surfliners. They already started with 4-digit numbers on the Pacific Surfliners for weekend trains, and it may very well be time to do the same on the Cascades, using 1500's instead of 500's.

KING-TV, Channel 5 in Seattle, WA, 8/16/17:
More Seattle–Portland trains arriving soon
Good news for anyone who is looking to travel between Seattle and Portland, there will soon be more trains between the cities.
The Washington State Department of Transportation announced Saturday that earlier and later departures on the Amtrak Cascades route will be offered later this year. The trains will also travel between the cities faster, and delays should be reduced.
It seems that if the Tacoma trestle project is further delayed, so will implementation of this new timetable.

Almost the shortest day of the year. Great timing--NOT! But I plan to take the old route to Centralia one last time just prior to switch-over, then a week or so later, the new inland route.
