Metrolink news release:

San Bernardino and Rialto stations to have three-week rail service interruption

Tuesday February 28, 2017

Train service will be affected between March 27 and April 16.

LOS ANGELES – Beginning Monday, March 27, Metrolink trains will not serve the San Bernardino and Rialto stations until Monday, April 17. Buses will be available to and from San Bernardino and Rialto for passengers connecting to regularly scheduled trains at the Fontana and Riverside-Downtown stations.

The planned service change is a result of work related to the Downtown San Bernardino Passenger Rail Project, which will connect the San Bernardino Downtown Transit Center to Metrolink’s San Bernardino and Inland Empire-Orange County (IE-OC) lines. The project will lead to additional connectivity with Amtrak, the sbX Green Line, additional Omnitrans bus lines and the future Redlands Passenger Rail Project (Arrow).

Beginning on March 27, San Bernardino Line riders whose trips begin or end at either San Bernardino or Rialto can purchase tickets with Fontana as the origin or destination, resulting in trip discounts. On the IE-OC Line, tickets and passes can be purchased with an origin or destination of Riverside-Downtown with free travel to or from San Bernardino. This offer on both lines will apply to all tickets and passes purchased between March 27 and April 16, including Monthly and 7-Day passes valid beyond April 16.

The alternate bus schedule will be released in advance of the service interruption. Buses will depart earlier from the Rialto and San Bernardino stations to connect to awaiting Metrolink train service at Fontana and Riverside-Downtown.

The project dates are tentatively scheduled and may change due to weather constraints or construction needs.

Metrolink Train Service Resumes at San Bernardino and Rialto Stations April 17

Thursday April 13, 2017

Passengers Will Board at New Platforms Near the Depot in San Bernardino

LOS ANGELES – Following a three-week closure of the San Bernardino Depot, Metrolink trains will resume service to the San Bernardino and Rialto stations on April 17. The closure was needed for crews to remove and construct new tracks and a new elevator and overpass as part of an extension of the railroad to Downtown San Bernardino. This project is being managed by the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.

On Monday, riders at the San Bernardino station will board their train and can get their boarding passes at the new platforms located near the actual depot. There will be staff and signs directing riders to the new boarding areas. Some construction work will continue for the next several weeks as crews complete the elevator and overpass, as well as upgrade the messaging system.

Metrolink implemented a new schedule on April 3 which contained minor changes to some trains. Riders should verify the new schedule to ensure they arrive on time for their train. Metrolink thanks riders and the surrounding community for their patience during this work.

Metrolink encourages riders to sign up for electronic updates through www.metrolinktrains.com, social media or Metrolink’s Mobile App.

Railway Age, 12/7/17:

Downtown San Bernardino rail extension complete

The Downtown San Bernardino Passenger Rail Project has officially been concluded, according to a joint announcement by the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), Omnitrans, Metrolink and the city of San Bernardino.

"We are excited to complete the Downtown San Bernardino Passenger Rail Project," said SBCTA Board President Alan Wapner. "The extension of Metrolink service to downtown San Bernardino will offer local residents more transit options and bring in new patrons for local businesses."

Wapner added that the Downtown San Bernardino Passenger Rail Project helps to make way for a future commuter rail system to the city of Redlands, further establishing public transit enhancements in the county.
