The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, VA 2/22/17:
Virginia Beach City Council puts off talk of repealing light rail tax
VIRGINIA BEACH
It’ll be two months before the City Council will talk about repealing a tax increase levied two years ago to pay for light rail.
Councilman John Moss introduced a resolution Tuesday night to start the process of undoing the 1.8-cent real estate tax rate increase, along with a handful of other changes that siphoned money to extend the Tide. The resolution would have directed the city attorney to write ordinances to repeal the tax increase. The council would then have to vote on the ordinances to undo the increase implemented in 2015.
Several council members said the discussion would be more appropriate when next year’s budget is presented in April, so the resolution was deferred for 60 days.

The fund is estimated to have $30.7 million by the end of this fiscal year, according to David Bradley, the city’s director of budget.
