Remember that the Rampart-St. Claude Streetcar was the newest one, and it was paired with the Loyola line that goes to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal.  While New Orleans has been through disruptions caused by the pandemic, street construction, hurricanes, etc., this line was severely damaged when the under construction Hard Rock Casino building collapsed.  It's taking a while to repair the damage, but the road to normalization did not begin for over a year while the bodies of those killed in the collapse were still within the structure.

RTA to Begin Rampart Streetcar Line Construction

After severe damage to the line during the 2019 Hard Rock Hotel construction collapse, the RTA is excited to be soon returning the Rampart–St. Claude Streetcar line service back to its riders. The agency announced that the project is estimated to begin in January 2023 and should be in service by end of April 2023. Construction will start at Elysian Fields and move toward Canal Street. RTA anticipates minor disruptions to riders during construction.

If they are any service disruptions, riders will be notified via norta.com and the Le Pass app. Riders can also sign up for text alerts by texting RTAUpdates to 41411.

How do you have "minor disruptions" on a line that hasn't operated at all in almost 4 years?

Early 2023 and April 2023 are both in the history books already, as we head for the halfway point of the year.   And now, a reminder that the line has been out of service for a longer period than it was ever in service.

WWL-TV, Channel 4 in New Orleans, LA, 6/1/23:

Rampart streetcar still out of service

For about three years residents and tourists could get down Rampart from Canal to Elysian Fields using the streetcar. Now, newer businesses on Rampart haven’t been able to take full advantage of their location.
