Right now, 1st Ave has no thru transit. All buses have been rerouted over the years, and if there is a stop at Marion or Madison streets, would be a good ridership generator. The fast passenger ferry launched by Kitsap Transit last year, gets good ridership, and that is just the Seattle-Bremerton run, Kingston-Seattle starts soon, and then there is the two routes of the King County Ferry District, and the car ferries carry a lot of walk-ons as well, The Rapid Ride G line will be running up Madison, but many critics have not tried transferring from the #12 bus at 3rd Ave. Madison St is a very steep hill, Prior to 1940, it was a Cable Car Route. I take a ferry trip across the water on the weekends, and take LINK to Pioneer Square Station, 3 block walk to the ferry terminal, sometimes I miss the boat, car traffic. Marion Street has a footbridge to the ferry terminal from 1st Ave.
The Passenger only ferries carrying capacity:
King County Ferry District:
MV Doc Maynard and MV Sally Fox:278 passengers each
MV Spirit of Kingston:149 passengers
Kitsap Transit:
MV Richard Passage 1:118 Passengers (2 sister boats ordered)
MV Finest:350 Passengers
Walk on Capacity Car Ferries:
Washington State Ferries:
Seattle-Bremerton:
Olympic Class
MV Chimacum:1500 passengers
Super Class
MV Kaleetan:2000 Passengers
Seattle-Bainbridge:
Jumbo Class MkII
MV Tacoma and MV Wenatchee:2500 Passengers
With capacity like the above, good intermodal connections on the Seattle end are needed. This streetcar cannot be diverted, like the 15 and 18 buses were, before replacement by the RapidRide D line.
