From Amtrak's website, 9/30/04:

Amtrak to Restore All Service To and From Florida

Amtrak Silver Star, Silver Meteor & Palmetto services in full this weekend

WASHINGTON -- Amtrak will operate all four of its round-trip trains between the Northeast and Florida by Saturday, Oct. 2.  In addition to service restored today (Sept. 30) by the Auto Train, additional service will resume tomorrow (Oct. 1) and all the daily trains on the New York-Miami routes will return with the trains originating on Saturday.

The return of full service by the three-days-weekly Sunset Limited is delayed by a previously scheduled track improvement project between New Orleans and Jacksonville on trackage owned by CSX Transportation.

The restoration of all Florida services comes after a series of hurricanes and tropical storms lashed the state and after a great amount of repair work carried out by forces employed by Amtrak, CSX (which owns most of the track used by Amtrak in Florida) and others.  Amtrak appreciates these efforts and the patience of our customers during this series of disruptions.

Amtrak is notifying customers of the following:

Palmetto, Trains 89 & 90, daily New York-Miami, via Fayetteville (N.C.) & Tampa:

The southbound Palmetto (Train 89) that is scheduled to leave New York City and the northbound Palmetto (Train 90) that is scheduled to leave Miami will operate over their full routes, staring tomorrow (Oct. 1).

Silver Star, Trains 91 & 92, daily New York-Miami, via Columbia (S.C.) & Orlando:

The southbound Silver Star (Train 91) that is scheduled to leave New York City will operate over its full route, starting tomorrow (Oct. 1).  The northbound Silver Star (Train 92) that is scheduled to leave Miami tomorrow (Oct. 1) will instead originate in Sanford, with alternate transportation only provided from Orlando and Winter Park.  The northbound Silver Star (Train 92) that is scheduled to leave Miami on Saturday (Oct. 2) will operate over its full route.

Silver Meteor, Trains 97 & 98, daily New York-Miami, via Fayetteville (N.C.) & Orlando:

The southbound Silver Meteor (Train 97) that is scheduled to leave New York City will operate over its full route, starting tomorrow (Oct. 1).  The northbound Silver Meteor (Train 98) that is scheduled to leave Miami tomorrow (Oct. 1) will instead originate in Sanford, with alternate transportation only provided from Orlando and Winter Park.  The northbound Silver Meteor (Train 98) that is scheduled to leave Miami on Saturday (Oct. 2) will operate over its full route.

Sunset Limited, Trains 1 & 2, three-days-weekly, Orlando-Los Angeles, via New Orleans and Pensacola:

As previously announced, the westbound Sunset Limited (Train 1) that is scheduled to leave Orlando today (Sept. 30), Oct. 3, Oct. 5 and Oct. 7 will originate instead from New Orleans.  The eastbound Sunset Limited (Train 2) that is scheduled to leave Los Angeles on Oct. 1 and Oct. 3 will terminate in New Orleans instead of Orlando.

A scheduled CSX track improvement project along the route between New Orleans and Jacksonville will prevent Sunset Limited westbound departures from Orlando on Wednesdays and eastbound departures from Los Angeles on Sundays from operating through the affected area.  Therefore, service between New Orleans and Jacksonville is canceled on those days, with no alternate transportation available, through Dec. 3.

Considering this issue, the first westbound Sunset Limited from Orlando through the Florida panhandle will be Train 1 that originates on Oct. 10, while the first eastbound Sunset Limited from Los Angeles through the Florida panhandle will be the Train 2 that originates on Oct. 6.

All Amtrak stations will resume their regular hours with the effective dates of the return of service along their routes.

These plans are subject to change, as conditions dictate.

The return of full service by the three-days-weekly Sunset Limited is delayed by a previously scheduled track improvement project between New Orleans and Jacksonville on trackage owned by CSX Transportation.

Strange, I don't recall seeing any prior announcements of this. So bascially, for almost two months when the SUNSET LIMITED returns to service, it will be operating two days a week instead of three.

Also, consider a previous article that I posted that some of the railroad ties in the Pensacola area ended up in people's living rooms, which means that they have had to basically rebuild the entire railroad in that area.
