Just 3 days to go until the OTOL BARF 2007 event. Everyone is excited about the upcoming gathering in the New York City area. The total count is currently at 14, however all will not be together at any one time.

The weather should be OK. I've seen predictions for rain on both Saturday and Sunday, but it looks like a case of scattered or infrequent showers. The high temperatures should be in the upper 50's to low 60's, and you can't ask for much better in January (unless your name is Alan and you prefer frozen precipitation) !! Still, come prepared for winter as the nights still can be quite cold.

Let's talk about meeting places, shall we?

On Friday afternoon, we should meet between 4:00 and 4:10 PM. The location will be at the Times Square subway station, in the vicinity of the S shuttle platform. There is a Wachovia Bank ATM facility on one side, so we should stand right next to that in order to be able to find one another. There is usually some type of singing or instrumental entertainment directly across from that location, so it may be a bit loud. Around 4:10, we will head to the 7 platform. The 4:18 PM train we are taking should be marked as a <7> express.

Saturday morning, our fest originates at the 34th Street/Herald Square station. As we did for last year's BARF event in January, we will meet underground at the northern end of the PATH 33rd Street station. This location is easiest to find, particularly for those coming from New Jersey. If you are coming from New York Penn Station, you will need to walk outside on 32nd or 33rd Streets one block to Herald Square, then take a subway entry that is also marked "PATH". If you are not taking PATH, do not go through the PATH faregates. The meeting time will be approximately 8:30 AM. A little before 8:40 we will begin to move towards the Uptown D platform for our 8:45 departure.

Note that the start time for Saturday was moved about 8 minutes earlier than before, to minimize possible delays due to reroutes and other planned service disruptions along the lines we will be riding. Again I don't expect the A, F, or L trains to adhere to their published timetables. The D could also be affected due to a reroute of the N in Brooklyn.

Sunday we have a relatively late start. Please eat a good, filling breakfast while on your own, since lunchtime won't come until a little after 2 PM. This is because of the nature of the service on the Upper Harlem Line being only every two hours. To eat at 12 Noon would be departing from Grand Central at 7:50 AM, something I don't think would be too popular. So on Sunday morning we will meet between 9:30 and 9:40 AM on the main level of GCT, in the vicinity of the information kiosk in the middle of the room. Please stand away from where information is given out so as to not block their operations. At 9:40 we will walk to the designated track for the train to Southeast, which leaves at 9:50. This is an express train, with its first stop outside the city at White Plains. Remember that at Southeast we have to change between electric and diesel trains.

At this point if you haven't already purchased Metro North or LIRR tickets on the internet by now, you will have to get them in person. Remember too that you will need a gold Metrocard with enough money on it to get you through the fest travels as well as your own if you're staying in the city. The gold pay-per-ride Metrocard is also accepted on PATH. Please, for the sake of moving the group along, buy your tickets in advance so we don't have to wait.

More updates should follow as we get closer to Friday.
