Minnesota Post, Minneapolis, MN , 10/25/16:

Met Council gets lucky with first major contract for Southwest LRT

The first significant contract for the Southwest Light Rail Transit project could have been a disaster.

Although six manufacturers took a look at the specifications for the 27 light rail vehicles that will be purchased for the project, only one company actually submitted a bid.

Here is the latest.

Minneapolis, MN Star-Tribune, 12/21/16:

Southwest light-rail project wins key approval from feds

The Southwest light-rail line cleared an important milestone Wednesday after the federal government authorized the project to enter the engineering phase.

The approval by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) means Metro Transit staff can now prepare bid documents for heavy construction, which is scheduled to begin next year.

Minnesota Public Radio, 3/22:

Minn. Republicans want feds to deny $900M in Southwest rail funds

Minnesota Republicans want President Trump's transportation secretary to deny Minnesota almost $900 million in requested funding for the Minneapolis-to-Eden Prairie Southwest Corridor light rail project.

It would upend a project that has been working through stages of approval for almost a decade.

Opponents of what would be the biggest-ever public works project in Minnesota have done everything they could to stop it. They fought Southwest light rail before city government, blocked clearance at the state Capitol and went to court.

But this might be the biggest threat yet.

This week, the role of Southwest light rail killer will be played by …

By now the officials behind the $1.9 billion Southwest light rail project must think they're the star in a slasher movie. Every time they think they're safe, somebody comes at them with a brand-new axe.
