Calif.’s Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) received the green light from the Federal Railroad Administration to begin full passenger train service, with the agency set to launch August 25.

SMART train service will be free of charge on opening day, with the agency holding a community grant opening event. After opening day, SMART fares for everyone will be 50% off regular price through Labor Day, with regular fares set to be in place Sept. 5.

Santa Rosa, CA Press-Democrat, 8/19/17:

SMART general manager Farhad Mansourian looks to train’s start and beyond

New railroads come along about once every 10 years, less frequently it turns out than the type of solar eclipse that will dim California skies Monday morning.

So the event set for Friday in Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square celebrating the start of service for the North Bay’s long-awaited commuter train will be a big deal, with speeches, a traditional Japanese blessing — a nod to origin of SMART’s green and gray rail cars — a standard American ribbon cutting and a short, free ride aboard six of the shiny new cars.

The photo in the above posting shows SMART's "smart" use of gantlet track.  This arrangement allows freight trains a wider clearance at station platforms.  Sloan

Gantlet, or Gauntlet, either term is used.   The South Shore Line also has sections of Gantlet/Gauntlet track near stations.

This Wikipedia article describes different Gauntlet Track configurations.  There are also examples from around the world, including the NJT Union station.
