One of the tings that I like about Portland Streetcar, is it's incremental approach to expansion, although this is it's biggest jump yet, in mileage. Also, I like how they re-use an old bridge for the Northern crossing of the WIllamette, rather than build a 2nd new bridge, like on the southern portion of the loop. It allows for the line to be opened before the new bridge that will also carry the Milwaukee MAX line.

It's still on for September 22, 2012 -- the almost Loop. Until the shared light rail/streetcar new bridge over the Willammette River is completed, it will function as a spur.
Here is the latest map showing what will open next month and what the full loop will look like once it's complete: http://www.portlandstreetcar.org/pdf/loop_...01102_lores.pdf It looks as though the new streetcars will temporarily turn on a single track portion at Grant Street. -------------------- Kevin Korell OTOL Board Leader Howell, NJ |
