Baraboo (WI) News Republic, 11/20:

Unique circus building renovated

A final walk-through Thursday marked the last step in renovating a one-of-a-kind circus building in Baraboo.

The Ringling Train Shed, built to house the train cars that took the “greatest show on Earth” across the country, is the longest wooden railroad structure in America. . . .

. . . Renovations not only shored up the worn 1909 building, but prepared the way for the shed to one day open to Circus World visitors.

New doors were installed as part of the initial phases of restoration of the Ringling train shed along the Baraboo
River. New windows were part of the final phase.

$1 million renovation to Circus World train car building completed

Baraboo — Contractors have completed a more than $1 million renovation of a circus building that once housed train cars in Baraboo before the "greatest show on Earth" was taken across the country.

The 80-plus railroad cars owned by the Ringlings were repaired and repainted in the shed near the Baraboo River during the winter, the Baraboo News Republic reported.

It's the longest wooden railroad structure in the United States, according to museum officials.

Historic circus train cars en route to Baraboo

 

As three parts of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus trains make their way to Baraboo, Joe Colossa and other former Ringling workers still are processing the end of the historic brand.
