MARC Service Alert, 5/1:

Brunswick Line: MAJOR service disruption Monday due to freight derailment

The Brunswick Line is currently blocked between Union Station and Silver Spring due to a CSX freight train derailment.  MARC Train anticipates major service disruptions for Brunswick Line service on Monday.

At this time, we are working with CSX and Bombardier Transportation Services to operate some form of service on Monday.  Exactly which trains operate and what their final destination will be is undetermined at this time (3:30pm, Sunday).  However, we are fairly certain that full service will not operate and trains are very unlikely to operate past Silver Spring.

MARC Brunswick Line passengers should begin considering alternatives for your commute on Monday:

--The Washington Metro option will be open.  Passengers may show your MARC ticket to the Metrorail Station Manager, and he or she will permit you to enter through the gate next to the information kiosk.  Please note that Metro parking charges, however, are not included and must be paid upon exiting the parking lot.  Reimbursement is not provided.

--MTA Commuter Bus is working to add additional buses to the 505 and 515 Commuter Bus lines.  All MARC tickets will be honored on both routes.  These buses operate from Hagerstown, Frederick, and Monocacy to Shady Grove Metro.

--Passengers boarding at Germantown and points east may utilize Ride-On bus service to connect to Washington Metro.  Ride-On buses honor all MARC weekly and monthly passes.

An updated message will be sent by 9:00pm this evening regarding exactly what train service will operate tomorrow.  We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
