Metra news release:

Take Metra to Riot Fest 2015

BNSF Trains to make Additional Stops at Western Avenue on Friday

(Aug. 28, 2015) – Music fans can avoid traffic and parking fees by making Metra part of your plans when this year’s Riot Fest comes to Chicago Sept. 11-13.

Metra’s Western Avenue Station on its BNSF Line between Chicago and Aurora is a short walk from the festival site. To accommodate concertgoers, Metra BNSF trains will make extra stops at Western Avenue on Friday evening. Trains will also stop at the station throughout the weekend providing a convenient way to travel to and from the festival.

“Metra and other public transit modes are simply the best, most worry free and environmentally conscious way to access the event,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “Schedule adjustments on our BNSF line make Metra an even more convenient option for those attending the festival from the western suburbs and easy connections to the CTA from our downtown stations make transit a quick and easy option no matter where you live in Chicagoland.”

Festival organizers are urging fans to either take public transportation or ride a bicycle to Riot Fest. The main entrance to Riot Fest will be located on 19th Street between California and Albany Avenue with a smaller entrance on California between Ogden and 19th Street.

To access the venue from the BNSF Western Avenue Station, concertgoers are encouraged to walk south on Western Avenue to 21st Street and west to California Avenue following California north to the festival’s main gate at 19th Street.

Metra riders who travel on our other lines can also use public transit to travel to and from the festival. Riders who use the Milwaukee North and West lines can use the Western Avenue Station on their lines to connect with the CTA’s #49 bus by walking east on Hubbard Street to Western. Take the #49 bus south towards 79th Street. Exit the bus at the Western Avenue Pink Line Station stop. Then either walk 0.8 miles to arrive at Riot Fest or take the Pink Line for one stop from Western to California. Fans who ride any of Metra’s other lines are encouraged to ride the CTA Pink Line from the Loop to the California Avenue stop.

Riot Fest is a multi-day music festival specializing in punk, rock, alternative, metal and hip-hop featuring a wide variety of internationally known musical performers. Founded in 2005 in Chicago, this year’s festival will be held on the grounds of Douglas Park in the North Lawndale community on Chicago’s west side.
