E-mail from Capitol Corridor:

Most San Francisco Bus Stops Suspended 1/23/16 - 2/12/16

From Saturday, January 23, through Friday, February 12, 2016, Capitol Corridor will be suspending connecting bus service to and from all San Francisco bus stops except the Transbay Temporary Terminal due to construction and street closures related to the upcoming championship football game being held at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, February 7, 2016. This will include both weekday and weekend service at the following stops: Hyatt/Financial District (SFF), Moscone Center (SFM), Shopping Center (SFS), Civic Center (SFV), and Fishermans Wharf (SFW).

Buses operating between the Emeryville Amtrak station and San Francisco will run according to their regular schedule; however, they will only stop at the Transbay Temporary Terminal. From here passengers can walk or take San Francisco Muni to their destination. As an alternative, passengers can also ride the Capitol Corridor train to either the Richmond or Oakland Coliseum station, and transfer to BART for travel to and from downtown San Francisco. BART tickets must be purchased separately and are available at a discount ($8 for a $10 ticket) in the Café Car. One $10 value ticket is sufficient for a round-trip between either Coliseum or Richmond and San Francisco. If you think you might use BART more frequently during this time, higher-value BART tickets are available by mail through BART and at select Bay Area retail vendors.

In the upcoming weeks, we will be providing more information on our website about special game-day service and how Capitol Corridor service will be affected before, during, and after the game.

It’s easy to connect to Capitol Corridor’s direct route to Levi’s Stadium by taking Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). From any downtown San Francisco BART station, board a Dublin/Pleasanton BART train and go to the Coliseum BART Station in Oakland, which is adjacent to the Capitol Corridor/Amtrak Coliseum Station platform. You can get from Super Bowl City to Oakland in about half an hour, with BART trains running every 20 minutes. Super Bowl FestivitiesThrougout the Bay Area

sb50-market-view_crop.jpg

Even if you’re not attending the game, there are tons of Super Bowl related events in San Francisco and throughout the Bay Area this week.

Super Bowl City presented by Verizon is the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee’s free public fan village in San Francisco and opened on Saturday, January 30. Centered in Justin Herman Plaza, on the Embarcadero at the foot of Market St., Super Bowl City features family-friendly activities, live performances, and cultural displays for fans of all ages. Visit www.sfbaysuperbowl.com for a schedule of events happening at Super Bowl City.

At the Moscone Center, also in downtown San Francisco, there’s NFL Experience Driven by Hyundai. Requiring a ticket for entry, NFL Experience is an interactive theme park offering participatory games, youth football clinics, merchandise from NFL Shop, and free autograph sessions from NFL players. Visit www.SuperBowl.com for information about NFL Experience, Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade in San Jose, and all other NFL events happening in the San Francisco Bay Area for Super Bowl 50.

Capitol Corridor can help you get to many of these activities, so avoid traffic, sit back, and relax on the train! And remember, if you’re traveling on gameday (even if it’s not to the Super Bowl!), you’ll need to use our special, one-day schedule effective on Sunday, February 7. But, if you're traveling any other day, be sure to use our regular schedule to make your travel plans. You can also visit our blog, where we’ve created a guide describing three easy ways to get to San Francisco on the Capitol Corridor.

Impacts to Regular Capitol Corridor Service

cc-routemap_crop.jpg

Besides the special gameday schedule in effect on Sunday, February 7, Capitol Corridor service has been impacted in other ways by Super Bowl preparations and activities throughout the Bay Area. These impacts – which include the suspension of all San Francisco bus stops except the Transbay Temporary Terminal, and the closure of parking lots at the Santa Clara/Great America Station – started in January and will be in effect through February 12, one week after the Super Bowl. If you plan on taking the Capitol Corridor anytime through mid-February, you’ll want to check out our news article about regular service impacts. Also, be sure to use our regular schedule for travel on any days other than Sunday, February 7.

Amtrak news release 2/1:

TAKE CAPITOL CORRIDOR TRAINS TO LEVI’S® STADIUM FOR SUPER BOWL 50
Reservations required for all trains on Sunday, February 7

OAKLAND – Football fans throughout the region can sit back, relax and take the Capitol Corridor train to the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, February 7. The Capitol Corridor provides direct service to the Santa Clara/Great America Amtrak Station at Levi's Stadium, the site of Super Bowl 50. Trains are operated by Amtrak and offer spacious, comfortable seating, free wi-fi access, and a fully-stocked Café Car.

On gameday, Sunday, February 7, Capitol Corridor will operate a special, one-day schedule, with over a dozen trains providing service to and from the Santa Clara/Great America Station. Passengers should purchase train tickets online, in advance, at the Capitol Corridor’s Super Bowl web page, www.captiolcorridor.org/SB50. Tickets may also be purchased from any Amtrak ticket agent or at Amtrak Quik-Trak machines located at stations. Capitol Corridor tickets are not available by telephone.

Super Bowl attendees staying in San Francisco can connect to Capitol Corridor by taking a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train from downtown San Francisco to the Coliseum Station in Oakland on gameday. The Coliseum BART Station is adjacent to the Oakland Coliseum Capitol Corridor/Amtrak Station and provides a seamless connection to the Capitol Corridor train (BART tickets must be purchased separately). Please note that the Capitol Corridor does not accept fare payment with Clipper, the San Francisco Bay Area's all-in-one fare payment card.

These tips will help ensure a smooth trip to and from Super Bowl 50:

•    Security and Screening: Super Bowl 50 attendees must pass through a security and screening area upon arrival at the Santa Clara/Great America Station. Station Ambassadors will be available to assist with directions. Passengers will be required to show their Super Bowl tickets and will be directed to a bag search area for security screening. For information, visit the NFL website.

•    Baggage: Be sure to carefully review the security and screening guidelines to know what is allowed to bring into the stadium. Please note that personal belongings may not be left on board Capitol Corridor trains. When traveling aboard the Capitol Corridor, also be sure to know in advance Amtrak's baggage policy, which allows each person to have two pieces of luggage up to 50lbs each and two carry-on personal items up to 25lbs each.

After the Game – Passengers who will be making their return trip on the Capitol Corridor should review their return train ticket and leave plenty of time to walk from the stadium to the platform at the Santa Clara/Great America Station. The area around Levi’s Stadium will be crowded, so we recommend leaving for the station about 45 minutes to an hour before your train’s scheduled departure. We also recommend fans exit the stadium via Gate F, which is the stadium gate closest to the train station.

Football fans get MVP treatment riding the train to the game!

The only thing better than taking the Capitol Corridor train to the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 7, was maybe the weather, which was near perfect, and the outcome of the game for Denver Broncos fans, who are no doubt still celebrating their team’s 24-10 victory.

Stopping within steps of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, the Capitol Corridor proved to be a convenient and comfortable way for football fans to get the big game. Unofficial ridership to Super Bowl 50 was just over 1,000, a weekend record-breaker for the Capitol Corridor. For San Francisco 49er home games, Capitol Corridor typically carries around 600 passengers.

“Overall, we couldn’t have asked for better turnout and service.” said Capitol Corridor’s managing director, David Kutrosky. “Along with our partners at Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad, we did a good job planning the service and getting the word out. As a result, fans not only arrived to the stadium safely and on time, but they were able to enjoy a fun and relaxing ride.”

While official numbers won’t be out till the end of February, we do know that many Super Bowl attendees who took Capitol Corridor were from out of town, and many who were staying in San Francisco connected to Capitol Corridor from BART, which provided coordinated service from downtown San Francisco to the Oakland Coliseum Station.

Service impacts in effect through Friday, February 12

As a reminder, there are still some service impacts in place through Friday, February 12. Connecting bus service to and from San Francisco is still restricted to the Transbay Temporary Terminal. Service to all other San Francisco bus stops will resume on Saturday, February 13.

Also, the parking lots at the Santa Clara/Great America Station remain closed through Friday. Passengers must either park at the San Jose Diridon Station or be dropped off at the temporary “Kiss n’ Ride” lot located at 5151 Lafayette St. in Santa Clara. The lots will be available again on Saturday, February 13.

Finally, the ACE Shuttles remain at the temporary stop at Lafayette & Calle de Luna, where they have been since January 25. The shuttles will move back to their regular location on Monday, February 15.

For service impact details, please refer to the news story that originally appeared on the Capitol Corridor website.
