WMATA news release, 1/26:

Service Alert: Four Orange Line Stations will not open as scheduled

Metro will be unable to restore train service at four Orange Line stations that had been expected to reopen this morning: Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church. The change in service plan is due to weather-related damage and icing issues with the electrified third rail that were discovered overnight as test trains were run on the line. Specifically, test trains were unable to move through the area reliably and maintain third-rail power to sustain service.

Metro's priority is ensuring that trains in passenger service are able to operate safely and reliably.

Orange Line service is running between Ballston and New Carrollton every 12 minutes. Affected Orange Line customers in Virginia should use Ballston Station until further notice.

Metro apologizes for the inconvenience and is working restore service to these stations--as well as five Silver Line stations--as soon as possible.

WMATA news release, 1/27:

Metro service information for Thursday, January 28

Metro is announcing the following service information for Thursday, January 28, 2016:

Metrobus

As snow clearing progresses and road conditions improve across the region, Metrobus service will be upgraded to a "light" snow service plan starting Thursday morning. Under the “light” snow plan, all routes are in service; however, pre-planned snow detours are in effect to keep buses off of hilly terrain, narrow streets and other problem areas. Bus customers should check the light service plan webpage for detour information.

As conditions improve, snow detours may be lifted and buses will resume normal routing. Metro will alert riders on a route-by-route basis through MetroAlerts by email or text message and on the Metrobus alerts and advisories page.  Sign up for MetroAlerts at wmata.com/metroalerts.

Metrorail

On Thursday, Metrorail will continue to operate modified service, with trains running every 8 minutes during rush hours on each line. In the downtown core of the system where stations are served by multiple lines, trains will serve stations about every 4 minutes.

Rail customers are advised that, due to reduced car availability following the blizzard, trains may be more crowded than usual. Ridership is lighter during the "shoulders" of the rush hour: before 7:30 a.m. and after 9:00 a.m. in the morning, and before 4:00 p.m. or after 6:30 p.m. in the evening.

Additionally, Rush Plus Yellow Line service (Yellow Line trains between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt) will not operate Thursday. Blue Line trains will continue to run 8-minute rush hour service to compensate.

MetroAccess

MetroAccess paratransit service for customers with disabilities will operate on its normal schedule. In some cases, "door-to-door" service may be unavailable where driveways or sidewalks have not been cleared of snow. In such cases, the driver will provide "curb-to-curb service" instead.

WMATA news release 1/28:

Metrobus returns to normal service; rail service returns to normal frequencies Friday

Metrobus has resumed normal service on 98 percent of routes as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Snow detours remain in effect on only six of Metro's more than 300 routes.  Some buses may experience delays or isolated, temporary detours due to local road conditions and post-blizzard traffic. Metro continues to encourage bus customers to allow additional travel time and to sign up for MetroAlerts to receive route-specific service updates via email or text message.

Metrorail will return to regular rush-hour frequencies on all lines starting Friday morning. Blue Line trains will run every 12 minutes with Rush+ Yellow trains in service. Most trains will operate with 6 cars due to reduced railcar availability following the blizzard. As a result, trains may be more crowded than usual.
