Submitted on Monday, January 25, 2016 - 8:45am

Due to Storm Jonas, New York & Atlantic Railway will not be running any freight service on Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 26, 2016. We will resume limited service Wednesday and will continue to work toward full service by Thursday.

We expect significant cleanup and clearing due to the amount of snow that has fallen. Service will be hindered accordingly.

We encourage you to limit your travel and outside exposure.

Submitted on Thursday, January 28, 2016 - 10:38am

As Storm Jonas encased New York City with several feet of snow this past weekend, the New York & Atlantic Railway (NY&A) assisted the LIRR to ensure that interruptions were minimized. As was the case one year ago, when Storm Juno hit the East Coast, NY&A began working almost immediately with the LIRR to clear snow from the tracks. At the direction of the LIRR, NY&A also helped to reposition disabled equipment. Our priority was to assist the LIRR get the system back in to operation ASAP.

“NY&A locomotives traveled more than 1000 miles and  NY&A’s forces have, to date, accumulated over 800 man-hours to clear snow from main lines, freight yards, and industrial leads,” said Paul Victor, president of the NY&A.
