Amtrak.com has been a bit unreliable lately (to say the least). As things stabilize, I'll make up some new charts.

Edition 3 of the Amtrak room chart has been e-mailed to those participants on the chart. We should be good to go barring any last month or last minute changes.

Bill,

Thanks, I think!   Appreciated, but data not all that stellar.  Glad I didn't schedule any important same-evening connections through New York.

Since we are getting close to the start of the Fest-tivities, I thought I would bring all the Amtrak charts up to date.  Attached are the June charts with arrivals up to June 17.

Cardinal #51, arriving Chicago (includes all arrivals in April, May & June):

Coast Starlight #11, arriving Los Angeles:

Pacific Surfliner #566, departing Solana Beach (SOL). Amtrak only reports departure times at SOL. On-time departures may have arrived several minutes early.

Pacific Surfliner #777, arriving Los Angeles:

There are 4 of us booked on the 7/10 westbound cardinal (train 51).  It is way too soon to know when the Cardinal will start running its route through West Virginia, but it is not too soon for some of us to be concerned.  :o

Yeah never a dull moment. A few years ago there was a bridge out along the Cardinal route, with 4 of us booked to travel east on 50 after the Fest. We were rebooked on 30 (Capitol Limited) in sleepers (I think we got the last sleepers because we were in the Transition car). Then during the Fest, the Cardinal resumed, but Amtrak did not contact the people they had rebooked, but instead started from scratch. One of the 4 of us were able to re-re-book back to the Cardinal, while the other three left things alone and kept what we had on the Capitol Limited.

I know we will all keep our eyes on the situation.

So to recap, we now have Amtrak worries on both coasts, given the Cardinal situation and what Steve mentioned about the Coast Starlight being delayed. The latter is not a deal breaker as the result could be arrival into Los Angeles a few hours late. For those who require public transportation to get to their hotels, the worry has to be that we arrive before the last trains of the night depart.

It seems like almost an annual occurrence that we have some Amtrak trip-related concerns going into the last weeks before a Fest. While neither is directly Amtrak's fault, their handling of it and ensuring we can all get together in the same place may be called into play in the coming days.
