Rail dispute pits ethanol plant against Hennepin steel mill redeveloper
HENNEPIN — The Chicago company that is demolishing and scrapping an old Hennepin steel plant in hopes of redeveloping the property is locked in a legal dispute with a neighboring ethanol plant over rights to a strip of rail line that crosses plant property.
Hennepin Industrial Development LLC had obtained a temporary restraining order allowing access to repair and use the tracks crossing the site of the Marquis Energy LLC plant to move salvaged materials to the Norfolk Southern main line for transport to recycling markets.
