Weekend service adjustments May 6-8 for rebuilding

 

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of May 6-8 with service adjustments on five of six lines. Trains will operate as follows:

  • Free shuttle buses replace Orange and Blue line trains between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue & Benning Road.
  • Red Line trains will operate every 10-22 minutes.
  • Silver Line trains will operate every 10 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only.
  • Yellow Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq only.

Early Opening Saturday morning for the for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
Metrorail will open two hours early, at 5 a.m., on Saturday, May 7, for riders traveling to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The closest Metro stops to the start of the race are Metro Center, Federal Center SW, Smithsonian and Archives.

 

 Red Line
Trains every 10-18 minutes | 8:00PM Friday until closing Sunday

Single tracking between Medical Center & Friendship Heights to allow for intense maintenance to address water infiltration, drainage, mud removal and other effects of water infiltration.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: Every 18 minutes
  • Additional trains from 9AM-9PM between Farragut North & Silver Spring

Passengers at Bethesda please observe station signs and announcements to board trains on the proper platform.

 

 Orange Line
Buses replace trains between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue | 12:01AM Saturday until closing Sunday

Orange Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Vienna & Stadium-Armory every 15 minutes
  • Between Minnesota Avenue & New Carrollton every 15 minutes

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday, buses will replace Orange Line trains between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue.

Free shuttle buses will operate between Minnesota Avenue and Stadium-Armory stations. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time.

Last Train Times:

  • The last eastbound train of the night from Vienna will depart at regular time. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last Orange Line train will depart Vienna at 2:33AM en route to Stadium-Armory. The last eastbound Orange Line train will depart Minnesota Avenue 15 minutes later, at 3:40AM. On Sunday, the last train will leave Vienna at 11:33PM and depart Minnesota Avenue at 12:40AM.
  • The last westbound train of the night from New Carrollton will depart 16 minutes earlier. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last Orange Line train will leave New Carrollton at 2:20AM en route to Minnesota Avenue. The last westbound Orange Line train will depart Stadium-Armory at 2:50AM. On Sunday, the last train will leave New Carrollton at 11:20PM and depart Stadium-Armory at 11:50PM

Work Performed: aerial structure and platform rehabilitation.

 

 Silver Line
Trains every 10 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday

Silver Line trains will operate every 10 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.

 

Blue Line
Buses replace trains between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road | 12:01AM Saturday until closing Sunday

Blue Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Franconia-Springfield & Stadium-Armory every 15 minutes
  • Between Benning Road & Largo Town Center every 15 minutes

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday, buses will replace Blue Line trains between Stadium-Armory and & Benning Road.

Free shuttle buses will operate between Benning Road and Stadium-Armory stations. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time.

Last Train Times:

  • The last northbound train of the night from Franconia-Springfield will depart at regular time. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last Blue Line train will depart Franconia-Springfield at 2:29AM en route to Stadium-Armory. The last Blue Line train will depart Benning Road 17 minutes later, at 3:40AM. On Sunday, the last train will leave Franconia-Springfield at 11:29PM and depart Benning Road at 12:40AM.
  • The last southbound train of the night from Largo Town Center will depart at regular time. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last Blue Line train will leave Largo Town Center at 2:23AM en route to Benning Road. The last Blue Line train will depart Stadium-Armory at 2:37AM. On Sunday, the last train will leave Largo Town Center at 11:23PM and depart Stadium-Armory at 11:37PM

 

  Yellow Line
Trains every 15 minutes | 10:00PM Friday until closing Sunday

Single tracking between Fort Totten & Prince George's Plaza to allow for switch replacement and communication cable installation.

All trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Sq rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.

 

 Green Line
Trains every 15 minutes | 10:00PM Friday until closing Sunday

Single tracking between Fort Totten & Prince George's Plaza to allow for switch replacement and communication cable installation.

  • Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders. To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.
  • Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. Trip Planner is updated to reflect weekend rebuilding schedules on Fridays; please check on Friday afternoon or later.
