MARTA TO UPDATE ELEVATOR AT OAKLAND CITY STATION
Modernization Complete in 8-10 Weeks

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will begin modernizing the elevator at Oakland City Station on Thursday, Feb. 15.

The elevator will be out-of-service for 8 to 10 weeks. Riders needing access to an elevator during this time should do the following:

  • Traveling southbound on train: Exit the train at West End Station, then ask the MARTA Station Agent to request a shuttle van to take you to Oakland City Station.
  • Traveling northbound on train: Remain on the train past Oakland City Station and exit at West End Station, then ask MARTA Station Agent to request a shuttle van to take you back to Oakland City Station.
  • Arriving at station by other means: Request that you be dropped off at West End Station (for northbound travel) or Lakewood/Fort McPherson Station (for southbound travel).
  • Arriving by bus: Route 79/Sylvan Hills – take bus to East Point Station; Route 172: Sylvan Road/Virginia Avenue – take bus to College Park Station.

“There is only one elevator at Oakland City Station, making rehabilitation and upgrade of the unit a necessity but also an inconvenience to our patrons. MARTA and our elevator contractor will do our best to expedite the work” said MARTA Assistant General Manager of Capital Programs and Development, David Springstead. “We are asking our riders for their patience as we modernize elevator and escalator units system-wide.”

The addition of one new elevator at Oakland City Station, accessible from Murphy Street, is scheduled to be completed this summer. It will be paid for with the More MARTA half-penny sales tax.
