WIDESPREAD FLIGHT CANCELLATIONS AT AREA AIRPORTS, REDUCED SPEEDS LIMITS IMPOSED AT PORT AUTHORITY BRIDGES, PATH SERVICE AT OR NEAR REGULAR LEVELS AS SNOW BLANKETS REGION

The first significant snowstorm of the season forced widespread flight cancellations by airlines at area airports this morning, led to the imposition of speed restrictions on Port Authority bridges and caused service delays in and out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

. . . Service on PATH trains was at or near normal levels throughout the morning commute, with far fewer riders using the trains.

The Port Authority’s Office of Emergency Management has activated the Port Authority Emergency Operations Center to help coordinate snow coverage, and the agency is prepared for the winter storm event with the following winter weather equipment and supplies ready at its major transportation facilities:

- Plow-equipped trains, liquid snow-melting agent trains and a "jet engine" plow to remove snow from PATH tracks, and snow blowers, plows and spreaders to clear station entrances, roads that serve PATH's 13 stations, and various support facilities.
