Metra news release:
Deerfield Platform Construction to Begin May 1(April 21, 2015) – Milwaukee District North Line riders who patronize the Deerfield Station should be advised that on Friday, May 1, Metra forces will begin construction work to rehabilitate both the inbound and outbound platforms.
The project, which is expected to be completed this fall, will replace the brick pavers and tactile surface with a new stamped asphalt surface with new tactile on both the inbound and outbound platforms. The project also includes fencing behind the platforms and has an estimated cost of $500,000. The work is part of Metra’s annual planned maintenance program intended to upgrade the conditions at our stations.
To minimize disruption to commuters, only one section of the platforms will be closed at any given time beginning with work on the outbound platform. Phase 1 will replace the south half of the outbound platform and Phase 2 will replace the north half. The work will then move to the inbound platform with Phase 3 replacing the north half and Phase 4 replacing the south half. Each phase of the project should take approximately one month. Work will be performed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Construction notices for all Metra projects, including temporary changes to train schedules, can be found in the Service Updates section of the website.
