Metra news release:

Deerfield Platform Construction to Begin May 1

(April 21, 2015) – Milwaukee District North Line riders who patronize the Deerfield Station should be advised that on Friday, May 1, Metra forces will begin construction work to rehabilitate both the inbound and outbound platforms.

The project, which is expected to be completed this fall, will replace the brick pavers and tactile surface with a new stamped asphalt surface with new tactile on both the inbound and outbound platforms. The project also includes fencing behind the platforms and has an estimated cost of $500,000. The work is part of Metra’s annual planned maintenance program intended to upgrade the conditions at our stations.

To minimize disruption to commuters, only one section of the platforms will be closed at any given time beginning with work on the outbound platform. Phase 1 will replace the south half of the outbound platform and Phase 2 will replace the north half. The work will then move to the inbound platform with Phase 3 replacing the north half and Phase 4 replacing the south half.  Each phase of the project should take approximately one month.  Work will be performed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Construction notices for all Metra projects, including temporary changes to train schedules, can be found in the Service Updates section of the website.

Metra news release:

Deerfield Platform Construction Update

(July 31, 2015) – Milwaukee District North Line riders who patronize the Deerfield Station should be advised that beginning Wednesday, Aug. 5, a number of parking spaces used by riders with disabilities will be relocated as Metra begins the final phase of work to rehabilitate the station’s inbound and outbound platforms.

The parking spaces for riders with disabilities in the parking lot adjacent to the inbound platform will be blocked off as of Wednesday Aug. 5 while Metra replaces the south end of the station’s inbound platform. Temporary spaces designated for people with disabilities will be moved to the parking lot adjacent to the outbound platform in the area currently designated as the 15-minute parking zone. Signs will be placed to clearly mark the temporary parking area.

Parking spaces that were blocked off on July 6 for the replacement of the north end of the inbound platform will be placed back in service when this final phase begins.

Metra forces began work on May 1 to replace the existing brick pavers and tactile surface with a new stamped asphalt surface and new tactile on both the inbound and outbound platforms. The Deerfield Station project also includes fencing behind the platforms and has an estimated cost of $500,000. The work is part of Metra’s annual planned maintenance program, intended to upgrade the conditions at our stations.

To minimize disruption to commuters, only one section of the platforms has been closed at any given time. With the completion of the first three phases of the project, workers have replaced the outbound platform and the north half of the inbound platform. The final phase of the project, which is scheduled to begin Aug. 5, will replace the south half of the inbound platform. Each phase of this project is expected to last approximately one month. Work will be performed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
