If unable to be upgraded or issues arise may I suggest the offsite paltalk for the chat. It's free to sign up and could save the board money. it is safe and you can make people admins of the room who can bounce and ban people from the chat who don't obey the rules.

The chat we have been using until now did have Admins (the same people who are Admins on this board), and we did have the ability to "kick" people out if need be. However that function never had to be used as we've always drawn a well behaved group of people.

As of 7:30 PM Eastern Time on Sunday 11/23, 2 hours before the chat session begins, there have been no updates to our board nor Chat. Please continue to access the Chat tonight as you have before. There is a very remote possibility that those who would be making updates might do them before or during the Chat; in that case few or none of us would be able to get in.

As of this evening, Friday the 28th, I have enabled the new chat program.  When the installation of the new chat was implemented a few days ago, it required the removal of the linkage to the old chat system.  So this has rendered the old chat system useless to us even though we still technically have 1 more week left during which we could have used the old chat system.

So this Sunday's chat will occur using the new software.  One can access the chat system by clicking on the "Chat" tab above the top of the forum.  The tab is located in the blue bar directly under the OTOL Logo/picture, it's the last tab of 5.  You are all invited to try the new chat room if you like prior to Sunday.

Please post here if you are having any problems seeing the new Tab or getting into the new chat system.

Alan,

Take care and take trains!

I know it had admins and you could kick members out. Im just letting you know that paltalk allows the same thing so it was safe if for some reason the chat upgrade did not go to plain etc but the new chat works so no need to use paltalk.

I was able to "chat" this morning (to myself).  Thanks Alan and Kevin for accomplishing this upgrade.  :)

I'm going to unpin, and eventually close this thread since we now have found and used successfully our solution. It saved us money and got us free of the dreaded Java® product.   We'll begin a new thread to comment on the new chat software, and whatever your impressions are of it after using it this past Sunday evening.
