Train Talk, February 11, 2010 7:30 PM

This message is for all Manassas Line riders:

VRE to Operate "S" Schedule on Friday, February 12

This is a long, detailed message. Please read in its entirety so you know what to expect tomorrow.

VRE will operate its "S" schedule. Only those trains marked with an "S" on your schedule will run. On the Manassas Line, this means that service is limited to trains 324, 328, 330, and 332 in the morning and 325, 327, 331, and 335 in the evening.

Train Equipment:

Due to equipment storage problems in our D.C. layover yard, we will only operate our 6-car sets on the Manassas Line tomorrow. Some crowding may occur as a result.

Platforms:

All platforms have been fully cleared. However, melting snows have dumped some snow onto the platforms from the canopy roofs. As a result, some icy patches may exist on the platforms. All stations have power.

Parking Lots:

This is always the most difficult part of responding to storms of this magnitude.

Broad Run - Piper Lane is cleared, but there is no shoulder parking available in those areas that still allow parking. The access road is only wide enough for two cars to squeeze by. The shoulders have not been cleared. We have lost about 20-30 spots in the actual lots due to snow.

Manassas - The lots look great. Garage parking was not affected.

Manassas Park - At last report, they were reworking the lot. We anticipate that there will be some lost spaces due to snow.

Burke Centre - The garage has some perimeter areas that accumulated some snow. There should be plenty of parking available.

Rolling Road - We are still working with Fairfax County to improve conditions at this lot. There were quite a few cars that were left in the lot through the storms, which made plowing difficult.

Backlick Road - This lot looks good, with several spaces taken by snow.

As always, please use caution. Allow yourself plenty of time to get to the parking lots and to the stations. Wear appropriate footwear and use handrails wherever provided.

This message is for all VRE riders:

VRE to Operate Full Service on Tuesday, February 16

Tomorrow, VRE will operate full service on both lines. Like many of you, we hope that the worst of winter is now behind us. With today's precipitation, we would like to offer a few reminders before you head out to the stations tomorrow:

1) Today's wintry mix is likely to freeze overnight. VRE facilities crews will be out extra early tomorrow morning to treat platforms as necessary.

2) Allow yourself plenty of time to get to the station and hold onto handrails when boarding and detraining.

3) There are still large amounts of snow occupying spaces. We are working to reduce that amount as the snow melts, especially at our more crowded stations. If you normally take a later train, we advise you to allow time to find a parking spot.

4) All elevators have been repaired.

As always, please be safe out there.
