The April issue of the Delaware Valley Association of Rail Passengers newsletter reports that preliminary engineering is underway for three mile extension of the R3 line from Elwyn to Wawa. Included in the engineering is a plan for a parking garage for commuters from nearby expansive tract housing. IIRC service sholuld start in 2009. Sloan

Is the catenary still in place, and energized?

Yes, and I do not think so.

The catenary is in place all the way to West Chester. It is doubtful that it is energized since in some locations there are tree limbs virtually laying on the old catenary.
