Tracks closed between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside

Starting Date: 1/24/2024

Tracks closed between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 4:26 p.m., it was reported that debris from the hillside slope along the Mariposa Trail Bridge in San Clemente had fallen onto the right of way and railroad tracks. The affected area is located approximately one-half mile north of Metrolink’s San Clemente Pier Station.

As a result, all rail movement has been stopped. Orange County and Inland Empire-Orange County line trains will only operate as far south as the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station until further notice.

There is no set timeline as to when the tracks will reopen or when rail service will resume. Metrolink track and engineering teams are working collaboratively with OCTA and City of San Clemente officials to ensure the right of way is safe.
