Hurricane Dorian Service Suspension

Effective Date: Fri, September 6, 2019

Hampton Roads Transit will suspend bus, ferry, light rail, and paratransit services all day Friday, September 6, 2019 due to threatening conditions related to Hurricane Dorian.

Based on current conditions, all services except the ferry will continue operating all day today, Thursday September 5, 2019. The Ferry will shut down at 4:00 PM today, Thursday September 5, 2019. Special buses will shuttle ferry customers from in front of Waterside District in Norfolk to/from the Portsmouth Ferry Docks until 6:00 PM today, at which point ferry customers are directed to utilize the Route 45  at County & Court/Waterside.

For paratransit customers, throughout the day Thursday, September 5, reservations are being permitted for same day trips for customers wishing to evacuate to a safer location.

All HRT services are planned to resume normal operations beginning Saturday, September 7, 2019. This may change, however, if conditions do not allow for services to be restored safely.

HRT provides updates through its Twitter feed, gohrt.com, and through Customer Service alerts for those customers who have signed up to receive them. To receive alerts, visit gohrt.com. The alerts sign up is on the agency’s home page. Transit information is also found on the agency’s Facebook page, Facebook/hrtfan.
